Shoebox PDFPrivacy Policy
The short version: Shoebox PDF does not collect any data about you. We have no servers, no account system, and no analytics. Your documents stay on your device unless you turn on optional iCloud sync, which goes through your own iCloud account, never to us. This page explains the details in plain language.
The app
We don't collect data
Shoebox PDF doesn't collect, store on our servers, sell or share any personal information or usage data. There is no sign-in and no account. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it never sends your documents or information to us. The only time your data leaves your device is if you turn on iCloud Sync (My Devices) or Family Sharing via iCloud, described below.
Where your documents live
Documents you import, scan, fill, sign or compress are stored on your device, inside the app's own storage. Like other app data, they are included in your own iCloud or computer backups of the device, depending on your iOS backup settings. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple, not by us. Signatures you save in the app are excluded from backups.
When you share or export a document (for example, through the Share Sheet), it goes wherever you choose to send it, and that destination's own privacy practices apply.
Optional iCloud Sync (My Devices)
iCloud Sync (My Devices) is off by default. If you turn it on, your library (documents, their person and folder tags, and your people list) syncs between your own devices through a private zone in your own iCloud account. It isn't shared with anyone, and it never comes to us.
When sync is on, "Include signatures and Family Profiles" also syncs your saved signatures and Family Profiles between your own devices. Sensitive profile details sync through iCloud Keychain. If you turn this option off, they stay on this device and their iCloud copies are removed.
To turn it off, go to Settings → iCloud Sync (My Devices).
Optional Family Sharing via iCloud
Family Sharing via iCloud is off by default. If you turn it on, Shoebox PDF creates a shared family folder using Apple's CloudKit. Documents you put in that shared folder sync between your family members' devices through Apple's iCloud, under each person's own Apple Account. They are never sent to us, we run no servers, and we can't see them. Apple's privacy policy covers data stored in iCloud.
Saved signatures, Family Profiles and your people list are never shared with your family.
To turn it off, go to Settings → Family Sharing → Family Sharing via iCloud.
Apple Intelligence suggestions
On supported devices, Shoebox PDF can suggest where to file a document and what to name it, summarize documents and help with forms using Apple Intelligence. These features are optional and the processing happens on your device.
Searchable scans and Family Profiles
Text recognition that makes your scans searchable runs on your device. Family Profiles you save for autofill are stored on your device, are never shared with your family, and sync between your own devices only if you choose to.
Purchases and Family Sharing
The one-time unlock is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and we never see your payment details. If you use Family Sharing, Apple makes the purchase available to your family group. Apple's own privacy policy covers these transactions.
Children
Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.
This website
shoeboxpdf.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, may process standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver and protect the site. We don't use those logs to track you.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use it only to reply to you.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
